Description	:	John R. Thimm, 87 years of age, of Beatrice, Nebraska, passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital Thursday night, October 25, 2012. He was born on November 13, 1924, at Beatrice to John and Emilie (Penner) Thimm and lived and farmed in the Beatrice area his entire life. John was a 1942 graduate of Beatrice High School. Read More	John R. Thimm, 87 years of age, of Beatrice, Nebraska, passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital Thursday night, October 25, 2012. He was born on November 13, 1924, at Beatrice to John and Emilie (Penner) Thimm and lived and farmed in the Beatrice area his entire life. John was a 1942 graduate of Beatrice High School. John married Ruth Esau on February 28, 1947, in Beatrice. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, rural Beatrice and had served as church chairman and had taught Sunday school; and had served on the former Beatrice Mennonite Hospital and the Beatrice Community Hospital board for 32 years and served as the chairman of the board for most of those years. John enjoyed watching his kids farm, attending his grandchildren's events, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include his wife Ruth; 3 sons, Larry Thimm and wife Kathy, Bill Thimm and wife Barb, and John Thimm Jr. and wife Lori, all of Beatrice; grandchildren Brad Thimm and wife Amanda, Lisa Thimm and husband Nick Enz, Brian Thimm and wife Jaime, Kristine Thimm, Steph Thimm, and Kari Cox and husband Beau; sister Ruth Lichty of Denver, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Emilie (Penner) Thimm; and sisters and spouses Helen and John J. Wiebe, Erna and Richard Wiebe, and Elsie and Willard Penner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 29, 2012, at the First Mennonite Church, rural Beatrice with Reverend Brett Klingenberg officiating. Public interment will be held at 10:15 A.M. Monday at the Mennonite Cemetery. The body will lie in state Sunday from 11-9:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 4-6:00, and will not lie in state at the church on Monday. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation and the MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) with John Penner and Lynn Gerber in charge.
