Description	:	Glasco Sun, Feb. 27, 1936, page 1: John Stiner, a pioneer in the Glasco community, died at his home on Fisher Creek, in Summit Township, on Tuesday, February 18, 1936, after a short illness, and about the only illness Mr. Stiner ever had in his long life. John Stiner was born near Springfield, Illinois, in 1851. Read More	Glasco Sun, Feb. 27, 1936, page 1: John Stiner, a pioneer in the Glasco community, died at his home on Fisher Creek, in Summit Township, on Tuesday, February 18, 1936, after a short illness, and about the only illness Mr. Stiner ever had in his long life. John Stiner was born near Springfield, Illinois, in 1851. He came to this country in 1869 when he was 18 years old, taking a place on the farm of Jacob Franks as a farm hand, and with this family made his home. Mr. Stiner was united in marriage to Martha Franks, daughter of Jacob Franks in 1882 at Concordia, Kansas. To this union were born three children: Charles and Earl of the home, who were with their father at the time of his death, and Anna of Cannon City, Colorado, who could not be here on account of her own sickness. John, as everybody knew him, spent the most of his life in this community, living on the Jacob Franks farm. After his marriage, Mr. Franks having passed away, he lived on the same place and his children were born on the Franks' homestead. John moved to other near-by farms, but later returned and farmed the land, which he first helped to till in 1869. John loved the land, and brought into this community the first self-binder. This machine used wire. John was a good neighbor, a friend of everybody and was ever ready to help. He lived 66 years in the same community being a good neighbor and a loyal friend to all who knew him; making a record of a long and useful life. John Stiner leaves to mourn him, not only his two sons and his daughter, but also two grandchildren, four nephews, and two nieces, and many distant relatives, and a host of friends and neighbors. The service was held at the farm home north of Glasco, conducted by Rev. C.D. Gambriell. Most likely Jackson County. That is where they where in the 1850 census, along with his Grandparents. David Goltry also sent the links for John's parents.
