MARTHA FRANKS STINER Miss Martha Franks was born May 21, 1860, and died at her home near Glasco, Kansas October 8, 1931, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 17 days. Miss Franks was united in marriage to Mr. John Stiner at Concordia, Kansas in 1883. To this union was born three children, two sons and one daughter, Charles Stiner, born August 20, 1896, and Earl Stiner born in 1899. the daughter, Mrs. Anna Clark, of Cannon City, Colorado, was born in 1893. Both her parents, a brother and two sisters preceded her to the spirit world. Her husband and two sons of Glasco, Kansas, and one daughter, Cannon City, Colorado, one grandson, and a host of friends survive to mourn her passing. Mrs. Stiner was the last of a pioneer family. The first generation came to America and settled near (unreadable)town, Pa. The second generation settled in Franklin County, Ohio. At the close of the Civil war, young Jacob Franks and his wife Sarah moved with their family of four children Samuel, Anna, Mary and Martha to the state of Illinois, and in 1868 they moved to Washington county, Kansas. One year later the family, with Mr. E.C. Davidson, who later became a son-in-law by marriage to the daughter Anna, moved to Cloud County, Kansas where they homesteaded a farm. Martha Franks Stiner was then a girl of ten years. She has spent the remaining years of her long and useful life on and near the old homestead farm. For many years the homestead was her home, later moving to an adjoining farm overlooking the homestead, where she lived until called to her long eternal home. Her husband and sons have continually farmed the Franks homestead some seven miles north of Glasco, so that, for 61 years, Mrs. Stiner filled a place of loving, kindly service in this one community. Her home was open to all, and her kind hospitality was known and enjoyed by many. She was especially helpful and comforting in time of sickness and sorrow. Like the Lord and Master of us all, she went about doing good, and thus fulfilled His own blessed words, "In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these ye have done it unto me, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
