He served in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam Conflict from 1961 till 1966 at the rank of SEP2 (E-5). He served on the USS Monticello. After the Navy, he returned to Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas and worked for Wilde Tool Company, he retired in 2008 after 44 years of service. J.T. was a practicing Buddhist. He married Miss Beverly Oliver,at Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas,on May 26,1962. They lived at Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas all of their married life. His wife,Beverly died July 17, 2009. His parents and a brother George also preceded him in death. Survivors include a son; a daughter; a half-brother; a nephew; and a granddaughter. The family will visit with friends at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas, from 5 until 7 p.m., December 22. A short memorial service will follow at 7 p.m., with flag folding a courtesy of the Brown County Honor Guard.∼ John T. "J.T." Murray, 70, of Hiawatha, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at his home. J.T. was born at Hiawatha, December 21, 1940, one of two children of John and Nona Meugniot Murray. He grew up at Hiawatha, attended Hiawatha schools, graduating high school with the class of 1960. J.T. served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict from 1961 until discharged in 1966 at the rank of SEP2 (E-5). Among his assignments while in the Navy was serving on the USS Monticello. He returned to Hiawatha and worked for Wilde Tool Company, working at nearly every machine before retiring in 2008 after 44 years of service. J.T. was a practicing Buddhist. He was married to Beverly Oliver, May 26, 1962, at Hiawatha. They made Hiawatha their home all of their married life. She died July 17, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a brother George. Survivors include a son John Murray III, of Pleasant Valley, MO; a daughter Melissa Murray of Gladstone, MO; a half-brother Fletcher Baker of Oregon; a nephew Roger Murray, also of Oregon; and a granddaughter Jessica. The family will receive friends at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, December 22. A short memorial service will follow at 7 p.m., with flag folding a courtesy of the Brown County Honor Guard.
