Description	:	John W Vrana Jr, 84, of Peoria, AZ, passed away on May 31, 2018. He was born on July 13, 1933 in David City, NE to the late John and Anna Vrana. John worked hard starting at a young age. He worked on a dairy farm, drove a truck hauling hay and was even a hotel desk clerk. He graduated from Superior High School in 1951 and attended the University of Nebraska for a year before transferring to Lincoln School of Commerce. He was born on July 13, 1933 in David City, NE to the late John and Anna Vrana. John worked hard starting at a young age. He worked on a dairy farm, drove a truck hauling hay and was even a hotel desk clerk. He graduated from Superior High School in 1951 and attended the University of Nebraska for a year before transferring to Lincoln School of Commerce. In June of 1955, John began working with the Bureau of Reclamation in Ord, NE. On June 16, 1957, he married the love of his life, Norma J. Vrana. After living short periods in North Dakota, Weslaco, TX and Ord, NE, John and his wife Norma moved to Phoenix for the Bureau in September of 1963. While in Phoenix, John surveyed for the Central Arizona Project Canal and when construction began on the canal, he was moved into the air-conditioned office. John retired from the Bureau Jan. 1, 1995. Despite maintaining a career, John remained active in the lives of his family. He was an umpire when his sons played Little League. His wife Norma kept score. Additionally, he also volunteered his time to the Boy Scouts, as his sons were involved in the organization. His hobbies also included collecting postage stamps and model cars. Faith was also an important aspect in John’s life. He was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church. He enjoyed singing bass in the choir as well as duets with his wife Norma. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma J. Vrana, children: Craig Vrana, Tammy Mascarenas, Sheri McCormick and John Wesley Vrana II, brother: Theodore (Ted) Vrana, sister: Delores (Dee) Epping, grandchildren: Nathaniel, Bryce and Hayley Vrana, Kristen and Kelly Mahler, Derek and Alysa McCormick and Heaven and Angel Vrana. He is preceded in death by parents, John W. Vrana and Anna Elizabeth (Moravec) Vrana, sister, Ruth (Ruzicka) Giger and brothers, Donnie and Linsfred Vrana as well as grandchild, John Wesley Vrana III. He will be missed by all who knew him. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thurs., June 7, 2018, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Scotia, NE. Pastor Bonnie Brock will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in John’s name to Calvary United Methodist Church, 7949 W Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85033. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
