J.W. Canady, prominent businessman of Lake View, passed to the Great Beyond at eight o'clock Sunday morning, Sept. 22, after four weeks' illness of paralysis of the brain. He resided on a farm during his youth with his parents. He came to Story County, Iowa, in 1866, where he engaged in farming and spent most of his life at that occupation in Boone and Greene counties, Iowa. Mr. Canady came here (Lake View) from Panora about two and one-half years ago, engaging in the real estate and insurance business in partnership with his son, A.B. Canady. He was married to Miss Annetta McNaughton at Nevada, Iowa, April 3, 1872. Twelve children were born to this union, two died, Chas. O in infancy and Estella at the age of 24. Mr. Canady united with the Christian Church in Ontario, Iowa, at the age of 21 and maintained his membership with this church to the end of his life. He was also a charter member of the Masonic and I.O.O. F. Lodge. Mr. Canady was a man of good habits, wholesome thoughts, attractive character, quiet manners and hospitable disposition. He loved his family and lived to minister to their welfare and happiness, not only physical and intellectual, but also moral and spiritual welfare and happiness and development. He was a kind neighbor and friend, and good citizen. And all of these are qualities of a "life hid with Christ in God." The last thought he was able to clearly express was for the companion of his life, commissioning his son Ben, who was with him at the time to care for mother. And then he said, "I ask God's blessings on all the children." Of himself, he said, "I want to die in the grace of God, I know I am going to." The remains were carried over the N.W. to Lohrville, then over the C.M. and St. P. to Churdan. The family were met at the depot by the members of the Masonic order, of which the deceased was a member and taken to the residence of Geo. Canady overnight. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in this city, Tuesday afternoon at 2:00, September 24, 1912, conducted by Rev. Morgan, pastor. After the church service the Masons took charge of the remains and held the usual Masonic burial service. All the children were at the funeral, also his brother and all but two of his sisters. There was a large concourse of people at the church and cemetery.
