Mr. Johnson had been suffering from stomach and kidney trouble nearly all summer and a couple of weeks ago was taken to his bed. Having attained his 77th year the nature of his ailment was considered serious from the first, but it was not expected that his taking away would occur so soon. Jonas Johnson was born in Ovanaker, Sweden, February 20, 1835. He was united in marriage to Brita Olson June 20, 1860. This union was blessed with nine children - four boys and five girls - three girls and one boy having passed away. He came to America with his family March 19, 1893, locating at Stratford, where he lived until his death, which took place at his home in the east part of Stratford Friday morning, August 30, 1912, at 2:30 o'clock, he having reached the age of 77 years, 6 months and 10 days. He was a kind father and a loving husband. He had been a member of the Lutheran church since childhood and was an up right and devoted christian. Besides an aged wife he leaves five children to mourn his death. They are Jonas Johnson of Sweden, P. J. Johnson of Madrid, and Andrew Johnson, Mrs. Peter Leksell and Mrs. Jonas Angstrom of this place. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Swedish Lutheran church, conducted by Student Callerstrom, and a large crowd was present to pay their last respects to the memory of this aged man and friend. The remains were laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery. Card of Thanks.
