Stratford Courier May 11, 1950 Martha Johnson Angstrom, third child of Jonas and Betsey Johnson, was born May [June] 7, 1874 in Helsingland (Hälsingland), Sweden, and passed away in her home here April 29, 1950, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 22 days. She would have been 76 years of age on the following Sunday, May 7. She came to this country in 1892 with her parents and the family settled east of Stratford. She was united in marriage to Jonas Angstrom April 20, 1898, and they located on a farm northeast of Stratford. They have made their home in the town of Stratford since 1930. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Jonas, and children, Clarence, Hazel Westrum, Elsie Williams, Irene Carlstedt, Lloyd and Harold, and nine grandchildren, as well as a host of many relatives and friends. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Sweden and had been a faithful member of the Stratford church. Through this faith she found comfort and inspiration in the daily reading of her "Home Altar" for many years. Because of this deeply rooted faith she loved her children and kept her home as all true mothers. The weary mother closed her eyes. Her day's work at an end. She prayed to Him whose love she knew, "Dear Father, Master, Friend" - But ere she said another word She drifted off to slumber. She'd loved her children, kept her home Her tasks seemed beyond number. The angels sang a lullaby And God looked down and smiled. "Dear Father," was the prayer she prayed. He answered her, "Dear Child." Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, May 2, with a brief prayer service in the home, with the Rev. F.W. Hanson officiating. He sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," followed by a scripture reading from John 11:21-27 and prayer. At 2 o'clock services were conducted in the Stratford Lutheran church. Pastor Hanson used for his sermon theme: "When the Undertaker Comes to Take Your Body - Where Will Your Soul Be, in Heaven or Hell?" Three songs were sung by Mrs. Arthur Larson and Miss Velva Berglund, with Miss Myrtle Olson as accompanist. They were: "There Is a Gate That Stands Ajar," "Shall We Meet Beyond the River," and "Nearer My God to Thee." The flowers were in charge of Miss Hannah Nelson, Mrs. Axel Sandegren and Mrs. Wesley Peterson. At the close of the services, the remains were taken to Oakwood cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were: Leonard Angstrom, Milton Angstrom, Elmer Angstrom, Wallace Young, Edward Young and Floyd Young.
