Westrum, 70, widely known resident of the Stratford community, died Friday morning at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient since Dec. 17. He had been transferred to Des Moines from Ames where he received treatment since Nov. 25. Death was caused by a heart ailment; he had been in poor health for several years. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., at the Stratford Methodist church, preceded by a brief service at the home at 1:30, the Rev. J. G. Waterman officiating. Burial in South Marion cemetery; Fosters in charge. Mr. Westrum is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters, Martin Westrum, Mrs. Edgar Crim and Harold Westrum of Stratford; Mrs. G. C. Erickson of Manson; Eldon Westrum, Stratford; and Mrs. Howard Ewing of Stanhope. There are 22 grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters also survive; Peter and Olaf Westrum and Mrs. Clarence Neese, all of Stratford, and Mrs. Theodore Carlson of Webster City. The complete obituary will be published later. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Webster City Freeman January 29, 1945 OBITUARY Jonas O. Westrum Jonas O. Westrum, son of Olaf and Carrie Westrum, was born May 20, 1874 at Stratford and died in the Iowa Methodist hospital, Dees Moines, Jan. 19, 1945, at the age of 70 years, 7 months, 29 days. At 17 years of age he moved with his parents to Hay Springs, Daws county, Neb., where he resided for 7 years. The remainder of his life was spent in the Stratford community. Here he was united in marriage to Ica Cora Neese on July 19, 1899 and eight children were born to them, all of whom survive with the exception of one son, who died in infancy, and a daughter, Pearl, who passed on at the age of two years. When 19 years of age, Mr. Westrum was converted in a sod school house near Hay Springs and throughout his entire life he continued to have a large interest in Christianity and was for many years a member of the Christian church and for the past five years was an honored member of Calvary Methodist church. Jonas, as he was familiarly known, had a rugged physique and the best of health until about five years ago when he found it necessary to slow down. He loved to travel, to mingle with people and enjoy the scenery and with Mrs. Westrum spent two winters in California and two in Florida. Left to mourn his death are his wife, three sons and three daughters. They are Martin, Harold, Eldon and Mrs. Edgar Crim, all of Stratford; Mrs. C.G. Erickson of Manson and Mrs. Howard Ewing of Stanhope. Also bereaved are twenty-two grandchildren, two brothers, Peter O. and Olof O. Westrum of Stratford, and two sisters, Mrs. Theodore Carlson, of Webster City, Mrs. Clarence Neese of Stratford. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the family home and in Calvary Methodist church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. W.J. Waterman was in charge and used for his text words found in Psalms 103, verses 2 and 3. Miss Minnie Williams and Mrs. E.J. Barquist sang "Asleep in Jesus," "No Night There" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," with Mrs. Ronald Bell playing the accompaniments. After the services the remains were interred in the South Marion cemetery. The casket bearers were Vernon Neese of Grand Junction, Guy Neese of Scranton, Julius Johnson, Clifford Neese, Chester Carlson and Marvin Westrum, all nephews of the deceased. Honorary Pallbearers were Tony Frederickson, Fred Engstrom, A.A. Deo, Sam Swedlund, A.T. Johnson and Sanford Johnson. Contributed by AbbyLynn
