Joseph Schott was taken ill with this dread disease and gradually grew worse on Thanksgiving and passed away at about 4:15 o'clock Friday morning, Nov. 29. He was born on October 6, 1887, at Ashton, in Lee county, Illinois. He came to Iowa with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Schott. In 1899, and since moving to Pocahontas from the farm, was first employed by the Stelpflug-Schott Co., and later by C. H. Schissel. He was a member of the K. of C. lodge and took great interest in the work of that organization. Every body knew and liked Joe Schott. He was a favorite clerk among the customers and a faithful and valued employee of the store. He was a young man of splendid habits and the sympathy of the community goes out to the mother who has been left alone in the beautiful home where his presence will be most sorely missed. Three brothers, Charles, Will and Jacob, of Pocahontas and two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Wilson of Morgan, Minn., and Mrs. Mary Persing of Millbank, S. D., are left of the family to mourn his loss. The remains were taken to Sacred Heart church and blessed by Rev. Kramer who had charge of the short service at Calvary cemetery, where interment was made Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30. SCHOTT Was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Schott, and was born in Lee county, Illinois, October 6, 1887 and died at Pocahontas, Iowa, at the age of 31 years, 1 month and 23 days. He was taken ill with Spanish Influenza on November 20, and was apparently getting along when a turn came for the worse and he gradually failed until he passed away as above stated. He came to Iowa with his folks in 1899 and until 1914 made his home in Sherman township. When his brother, C. A. Schott went into the general merchandise business, Joe took a place in the store, and since that time, through several changes in ownership, he has been one of the faithful employees in what is now the Schissel store. He was always the same accommodating and attentive to business, he made and kept a lot of friends who will sorely regret his sudden taking off. On account of the quarantine a private funeral was held at the home, Saturday afternoon, burial being made in Calvary cemetery. Transcribed by Teresa Davis
