Death Was Caused From Injuries Suffered In Accident September 11 Jacob V. Schott died at his home near Bradgate at about 10 o'clock Thursday, Nov. 18. His death was caused from internal injuries suffered in an accident at his home on September 11 when he was pinned beneath a loaded hayrack. He had been a patient in Mercy hospital at Fort Dodge for seven weeks following the accident. Three weeks ago he was taken to his home where he reeived the most tender care and every effort made to save his life was to no avail. Funeral services were held at St. Margaret's church at Rolfe at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. Rev. D. A. Tewell, pastor of that church officiated. Burial was in Calvary cemetery at Pocahontas. The pall bearers, all nephews of the deceased, were Lucian Schott, Walter Schott, Francis Schott of Pocahontas, Edward Persing, Humboldt, S.D., Chas. Hansen, Pomeroy and Gilbert Kruel, Lohrville. Jacob V. Schott was born on a farm near Ashton, Lee county, Ill., July 25, 1893. In 1899 he moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Schott, to Pocahontas county and located on what is now known as the McCormick farm at the west edge of this city. A few years later the family moved to a farm in Sherman township. In 1914 the family moved to Pocahontas. Mr. Schott united in marriage with Dorothy Kruel on Sept. 26, 1916, in this city. They established their home here and he engaged in the garage business in partnership with John Owen. This partnership was dissolved in 1918 and in partnership with Jack Holtz, Mr. Schott established an electric shop. He disposed of his interests in that business two years later at which time he started farming moving to the Jim Sinek farm. In 1929 the family from from a farm in Lincoln township to a farm near Bradgate where they have since resided. Mr. Schott is survived by his wife, two daughters and six sons. The children, the oldest of which is 19 and the youngest 5 years old, are Richard, Raymond, Bernice, Kenneth, Robert, Ruth, Dewayne and Tommy all at home. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Jas. Persing of Humboldt, S.D., and two brothers, Will and Chas. Schott both of this place. His parents, three sisters and two brothers preceeded him in death. Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. James Persing, Humboldt, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Will Hubbel, Maynard, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Will Hansen and family, Pomeroy; Mr. and Mrs. Will Kruel and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Birk of Lohrville; Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Kruel, Perry; Mr. and Mrs. Art Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Art Schott and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Collins, Mrs. Nick Stelpflug, Miss Rosie Wilson, all of Fonda; Leona Luft, Lakefield, Minn., Jacob Hohe, Des Moines; Chas. Luft, Okebena, Minn. - - - - - NOTE: Pocahontas Record Democrat, Pocahontas, Iowa, Thursday, 25 Nov 1937, pg. 9 Mrs. Jake Schott crushed her hand in the washing machine wringer disabling her so that a nurse had to be obtained to care for Mr. Schott during the last week of his illness. Mr. Schott developed infection in his back where he was injured several months ago and gradually became worse until his death last Thursday. The 1930 Census shows that Jacob Schott (listed as Jake V Schott but could show as Jake C Schott) shows that he and his family resided in Des Moines Township, Pocahontas County, Iowa (R.F.D. Bradgate). Further, his death certificate (number H76-0094) also is written with County: Pocahontas, Township: Des Moines, City: RFD Bradgate.
