Description	:	(From his Obituary) Many were suprised to hear of the death of "Uncle Joe" Dory, which occurred at his late home, four miles South of town, last Friday morning at 5:30 am. Although in his eighty-sixth year, he was remarkably rugged, of great vitality, and with great will power kept going about until the very last. Last winter he was quite sick, suffering from partial paralysis, but has been much better during the summer, and only consented to be confined to his bed on Tuesday before the Friday of his death. Although in his eighty-sixth year, he was remarkably rugged, of great vitality, and with great will power kept going about until the very last. Last winter he was quite sick, suffering from partial paralysis, but has been much better during the summer, and only consented to be confined to his bed on Tuesday before the Friday of his death. Joseph Dory was born April 3, 1819, near Toronto in what was then called Canada West where he grew to manhood. He moved to Kane County, IL in 1845, and was married to Abigal Roth May 2, 1847. They resided in Wisconsin where they remained until 1852, when they came to Allamakee County, Iowa. In 1869 they came to Adair County where they continued to reside for more than thirty years. His wife died in Feb. 1900. Eleven children: five sons and six daughters were born to them, eight of whom survive. The funeral was held at the Congregational Church Sunday at noon, conducted by the Rev. H.J. Wilkins, and attended by a large congregation of neighbors and friends. The pallbearers were S. Bennett, D. Carver, L.A. Chaffe, Henry Hyda, Wendel Mathes, and A.G.Green. The remains were interred in the Fontanelle cemetery.
