Joseph Edward Clinton, son of John and Pearl Miller Clinton, was born Sept. 18, 1922, at Monett, Mo. He died Oct. 8, 1987 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wichita, at the age of 65. Joe grew up and attended school in Joplin, Mo., where he graduated from high school in 1940. He played Van Johnson baseball before entering the US Marine Corps in 1941. He served with the US Marine Corps Detachment aboard the USS Lexington which was sunk in the South Pacific Ocean. After the war Joe worked as a surveyor for the Pan American Pipeline Co. In 1948, Joe went to work for the Frisco Railroad, and railroading became his career, until retirement in 1982. He retired as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Line. On Sept. 25, 1958, Joe was united in marriage with Virginia E. Everley at Wichita, and her family became his family. One son was born to this union. Joe's work on the railroad took them to Neodesha, Independence and Wichita. Joe and Ginny had just recently moved to Glasco. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the First Christian Church of Joplin, Mo. He served his community by being a volunteer for the Glasco Ambulance Service. Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of the home; five sons and their wives, John and Betsy Clinton, Wichita; Bill and Lynette Gold, Delphos; Martin and Pattie Gold, Topeka; Mike and and Sharon Thompson, Manhattan; and Robert and Terri Ellis, Neodesha; two daughters and their husbands, Jan and Larry Blochlinger, Concordia; and Beverly and Bruce Lamendola, Wichita; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his mother-in-law, Sylvia Everley; a sister-in-law, Pat Clinton; and a nephew, Mike Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Clinton. Music was furnished by the Harold Knight family. Casket bearers were Joe Bucklin, Bobby Dixon, George Ford, Jim Hattabaugh, Glenn Horner, Joe trimmell, Bill Vest. Graveside services were by the V.F.W. Interment was in the Glasco cemetery, Glasco. Services were by Dean Funeral Home.
