Mr. Howery was born March 26th, 1799, in old Virginia. His parents moved from his native state while he was but fifteen years old to Shelby county, Indiana. At the age of twenty-three years he was married to Miss Lodema Kinsley, who now survives him. His next move was to Randolph County, in the same state, where they lived until he moved to this county in the year 1885. His settlement in this county was on the same farm on which he died. Sixteen children were born to them, nine of whom are living – five daughters and four sons, all the heads of families. Mr. Howery had twenty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all living." NOTE ERROR IN OBITUARY: The Howery family was in the 1856 Iowa Census, Spring Creek Twp., Black Hawk Co., IA. Instead of removing to Iowa in 1885 as stated in the obituary, they more than likely arrived in Iowa between 1851 and 1855. Lodema's obituary states that they moved to Iowa in 1856. *********************************************** Suggested Edit: Found this small snippet.
