The deceased has for the past eight years been a resident here and was for some time employed at the Burlington shops, but in recent months has been unable to carry on any work. Mr. Powell is survived by the widow, and six children, D. Maynard Powell, Tribune, Kansas; Mrs. Aurilla Atkins, Camp Chase, Ohio; Miss Lydia Powell, Lincoln; Mrs. Lucille Simons, Anderson, Iowa; Mickey Powell, Mare Island, California; Cyril Powell, Grover, Colorado. The friends of the family will join in their sympathy to the members of the family circle in the death of the husband and father. Plattsmouth Semi-Weekly Journal, 12/22/1930 __________________________ OBITUARY Joseph Stanley Powell, oldest son of the late William and Aurilla Powell was born in Otoe county, one mile south of Burr, Nebraska, September 18, 1870. At the age of six years he moved with his parents to Syracuse where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Miss Grace I. Smith at Plattsmouth, November 27, 1897 and established their home in Otoe where he was engaged in black smithing. To them were born six children, all of whom survive. He also leaves his wife, mother, two brothers, three sisters and seven grandchildren. Since 1906 he has resided in or near this city. Nearly a year ago he was compelled to give up work on account of poor health and had gradually failed until December 18, when death called him home.
