He was the eldest son of J. Warren Keifer Jr. and Julia Lowry Keifer of the Elora Ranch. Read More	The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, July 26, 1973 Joseph William Keifer, was born on October 2, 1887 at Elora Ranch south of Bostwick, Nebr. and died on July 16, 1973 in Superior, Nebr., at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 14 days. He was the eldest son of J. Warren Keifer Jr. and Julia Lowry Keifer of the Elora Ranch. Jo attended grade school and high school in Lincoln, Nebr. and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1910 with a B.S. degree in agriculture. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I as a top sergeant in the 110th Engineers. He was married to Thelma Amack, daughter of Ivans Amack and Myrtle Holmgrain. Thelma died in 1946. They had one son Joseph William Keifer, Jr. Jo's survivors include his son, Bill of Kansas City, Mo. and two grandsons, Joseph William Keifer III and John Richard Keifer. One brother, Oswin of Bostwick and one sister, Mrs. Margaret McLafferty of Lincoln, Nebr. He was preceeded (sic) in death by his wife, his parents, and one sister. For many years Joe ran a general store and cheese factory in Bostwick. He had served as postmaster at Bostwick. He was a member of the American Legion, The Nuckolls County World War I Barracks Association, The Masonic Lodge, and the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 19, 1973, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home. Pastors R.W. Caskety and A.J. Kleinsasser officiated. Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery with Masonic rites by J.P. Nielsen, flag folding and presentation by Carl Washington and Oscar Townsend. Taps were by Wayne Megrue and Robert Noren.
