Read More	Last Rites Here for Josie Stotts Mrs. Josie E. Stotts, 91, died July 20 at Ninsha Care Center in Malvern. A native of the East Liberty neighborhood, she was a long time correspondent for The Malvern Leader and a force in the preservation of the East Liberty church property. Josie Kerney Stotts was born in April 1889 and died on July 20, 1980 at the age of 91. She was the last remaining member of the family of Elzie and Laura Kerney, and lived in the East Liberty area all her life. Preceding her in death was her father Elzie Kerney, who died in 1931, her mother, Laura Hartley Kerney, who died in 1953, her brother, Ora Claud Kerney, who died in 1968, and her sister, Mettie Kerney Stotts, who died in 1953. In March, 1954, she was married to W. C. Stotts, who passed away in 1965. As a vital part of the community, Mrs. Stotts devoted her life to the East Liberty Church. She taught Sunday School for many years, received national recognition in the U.M.W. and also was a long time pianist for the East Liberty church. She expressed much interest in missionary work, especially for the younger generations, bringing comfort and aid to many in their times of sickness and sorrow. She brought pride and dignity to the community through her civic activities. She wrote the East Liberty News for The Malvern Leader for many decades. She published sheet music and a book of verse. She spent her last years at the Nishna Care Center. She will be missed by her many friends. She is survived by two nieces, Katharine Kerney Greene, who is married to Gordon E. Greene, living in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Frances Kerney Grosshans, who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Other survivors are great nieces Judith Greene Bailey residing in Greeley, Colorado, and Kaye Grosshans, living in Albuquerque, New Mexico and great nephew Timothy Greene, who lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Funeral services were held at East Liberty Methodist church, Tuesday, July 22, the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Pallbearers were Walter Stiles, C. F. (Kelly) Bolte, Edwin Leu, Ward Hunt, Larry Williams, and Ronald Finkel. At the registry book was Mrs. Dale Allensworth. Ushers were Rodney Hunt and Dale Alexander. Flower ladies were Mrs. Ward Hunt and Mrs. Edwin Leu. M usic was provided by Mrs. Kenneth Scott, soloist; and William K. Gilbert, pianist. Songs were "Peace in the Valley," and "You've Grown So Close To Me," which was composed by the late Mrs. Stotts in 1938. Internment was in the East Liberty cemetery, with Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home, Inc., Malvern, in charge. Malvern Leader - July 31, 1980, p. 5
