LEROY HASWELL SR. 1928 - 2018 Joy LeRoy Haswell Sr. age 90 of Plattsmouth, NE passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital in Omaha, NE. Joy was born on November 22, 1928 to Lee Joseph Haswell and Claire Mary Elizabeth (Parker) Haswell-Bruns in Louisville, NE. He was raised and schooled in Plattsmouth and he graduated from Plattsmouth High School. After high school, Joy served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He met Shirley Ann Gansemer and they were later married on February 27, 1954 at the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth, NE. Joy and Shirley had two children, Joy Jr. (1957) and Roxanne (1959). They lived within the city limits of Plattsmouth until 1959, when they purchased and moved to the eighty acres located two miles north of Plattsmouth. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired at age 55 in 1986 as the Paint Shop Foreman. After retirement Joy and Shirley enjoyed traveling in their camper. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543, Hugh J. Kerns American Legion Post #56, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #365 all of Plattsmouth. Joy is survived by his son: Joy “Joe” Haswell Jr. and wife Missy of Plattsmouth, NE; two daughters: Roxanne Pfeifer & Victor Chudy of Plattsmouth, NE; Deb Raymond of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren: Kim “The Favorite” Tilson and husband J.J. of Plattsmouth, NE; Shannon Nielsen and husband Jerrod of Plattsmouth, NE; Kelsey Haswell of Plattsmouth, NE; Kirkland Haswell of Plattsmouth, NE; seven great grandchildren: Makayla and Madisyn Tilson, Andrew, Trevor, Cael, Kyler, and Josie Nielsen; sister: Ruth Johnson and husband Tom of Nehawka, NE; brother: Dale Bruns and wife Janet of Bellevue, NE; two sisters in law: Patricia Schwartz of Rapid City, SD; Barbara Gochenour of Louisburg, MN; brother in law: Howard Gansemer and wife Janice of Nehawka, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Joy is preceded in death by his parents: Albert & Elizabeth Bruns, his father: Lee Haswell, wife: Shirley Ann Haswell, brother: Gene Haswell, three sisters and brothers in law: Florence and Harry Raboldt, Miriam and Ralph Payton, and LaVonne and John Speck, and three brothers in law: Robert Krecji, William “Bill” Gochenour, and Jerry Schwartz. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M., with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth with Pastor Lloyd Stuhr officiating, Peg Chesley and Martha Jenkins as vocalists, and Marcia Fleming as organist. The Pallbearers will be Kirkland Haswell, Andrew Nielsen, Trevor Nielsen, Cael Nielsen, Kyler Nielsen, Neal Johnson, Jerome Speck, and John Speck. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Beins, Steve Beins, Chuck Brink, Ed Brink, Mark Bruns, Kevin Bruns, Dan O’Dea, Alan Gansemer, Gerald Handy, Tod Johnson, Dave Krejci, Rob Krejci, Les Schwartz, Mike Schwartz, and Donald Schwartz. Military Rites will be conducted by Nebraska Army National Guard, Military Funeral Honor Guard and Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543 of Plattsmouth. His Final Resting Place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth. The family suggests memorial to Plattsmouth Senior Center, Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warriors, or First Lutheran Church.
