Read More	Julia Dorothea Martin Spamer was the daughter of George and Caroline Elizabeth Martin. She was born in 1824 in Mitan, Russia, a city that today would be located south west of Riga in the country of Latvia. Some of her descendants were told that Julia's parents came to the U.S. when she was a baby. Julia kept the pillow she slept on during her voyage across the Atlantic. There was a George Martin listed as a painter on S. High Street in the 1827 Baltimore Directory which is most likely where Julia and her parents lived when they immigrated. Julia married Ludwig Spamer in Baltimore on September 11, 1842. They became the parents of 11 children and were married 57 years. On July 8, 1850, the Federal Census and Baltimore Directory showed the Ludwig Spamer family lived at 73 S. High Street, Ward 4, in Baltimore City. Julia 26, worked as a milliner and was married to Ludwig 32, who worked as an oil dealer and a turner. Their son, Augustus 7 attended school, daughters-Olivia 5, Amelia 3, Mathilda 0; Caroline Martin 47 (Julia's mother), Caroline Doritee 24, Elizabeth Doritee 57, also lived in the Spamer household. On June 18, 1860, the Federal Census listed the Spamers living at 130 N. Central Avenue, Ward 6 in Baltimore City. Julia Spamer 36, born in Russia; Ludwick Spamer 42, born in Darmstadt Germany, dealer in etherial oil; Augustus 17, Olevia 15, Amelia 13, Matilda 10, Addolf 8, Arthur 6, Ada 3, Rubin 3 mths, Caroline Martin 56; real estate value $300 August 20, 1870, the family was living at 358 Aisquith Street in Baltimore. Julia Spamer 46, born in Russia; Ludwick 52, works in piano factory; Olivia 24, Amelia 23, Matilda 20, Addolph 17- an apprentice printer, Arther 15- empl in lawyer office, Reuben 10, Elmer 7, Lylie 5, Marion 2 In the 1880 census, Julia Spamer, 56, stated that her parents were born in Russia. Her husband Ludwig 62, worked as a piano tuner. Children living at the house: Olivia 35, Amelia 33, Matilda 30, Adolph 28, Arthur 26, Lillie 15, Miriam 12, Reuben O. 20. On June 1, 1900, Ludwig 81 and Julia 76 lived on Markley Avenue, Baltimore County. Her father was born in Denmark, mother in Russia, she was able to read, write and speak English, married 57 years. She is the mother of 11 children, 9 still living. On December 1, 1900, Julia died at Rockland from cerebrospinal meningitis, having been sick 5 days.
