She came to America when ten years of age. She was married to Matthew Ott at Newark, New Jersey, at the age of eighteen. Shortly after her marriage she moved with her husband to Freeport, Ill. remaining there for eight years, thence moving to Iowa. From Iowa they moved to Missouri, and then came to Kansas in the year 1879, where she has lived since that time. To this union was born fifteen children, nine sons and six daughters. Of this number eight sons and six daughters are now living, the third son paving passed away at the age of one year. Ten of the children were present at the funeral service. They were Augustus Ott, of Sterling, Colo.; Mrs. Sarah Theresa Glahn, of Oxford, Nebr.; Edward Ott, of Gypsum; Emery Ott, of Salina; Wm. Ott of Lindsborg, Kan.; Anthony Ott of Shelley, Idaho; Mrs. Mary Hostetler, Mrs. Emily Harper, Mrs. Ellen Butler, and Mrs. Flora Soule, all of Glasco. Four of the children were unable to be present. They were Geo. W. Ott, of The Dalles, Oregon; Albert Ott of Los Angeles, Calif.; Daniel B. Ott, of Spokane, Washington; and Mrs. Minnie Sage, of Shelley, Idaho. Several years ago Mrs. Ott united with the Christian church in this city, and had lived faithful in the services of her Blessed Maker till death overtook her. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. A large concourse of sorrowing friends and old neighbors attended the burial service of this grand old lady to pay their last respects to one whom they had learned to love and esteem through her beautiful character. The funeral service was held at the home of the deceased, and was conducted by Elder Park of the Christian church, Tuesday, May 9th, at 2:30 p.m. The remains were laid to rest in the Glasco cemetery.
