Harper Emily Jane, daughter of Matheus and Julianna Ott, was born near St. Joseph, Mo., October 10, 1873, and departed this life February 5, 1946, at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 26 days. In the spring of 1879, her family located on a farm near Glasco. Here her girlhood was spent with her fourteen brothers and sisters which were in the family group. Of these, four brothers and two sisters survive. They are Mrs. Martin Butler and Mr. Ed Ott of Glasco, Mr. Will Ott and Mr. Arthur Ott and Mrs. Ben Sage of Shelly, Idaho, and Mr. Dan Ott of Tacoma, Washington. On November 1, 1893, she was united in marriage to John A. Harper. To this union, which was broken with her passing, were born four sons and two daughters. Doss, the eldest, passed on four years ago. Those surviving are Willis, John M., and Mrs. Merle Beaver of Glasco, George of Delphos, and Mrs. Marjorie Smith of Garden City, Kansas. Three grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter were a constant source of pleasure and joy to Grandmother Harper. They include Harland and Sherry Ruth Harper, Darrell Dean and Gary K. Smith, and Vicki Diane Harper. At eighteen years of age Emily Jane Ott united with the Christian church of Glasco. Throughout the more than half century that has passed since she accepted her Savior she remained steadfast in her faith. Her quiet, unassuming disposition, coupled with a love for industry and devotion to her husband and family, manifest itself in the splendid home which she helped establish in the community. Always a believer in teaching by personal example, her presence was like a benediction on those with whom she came in contact. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 1946, at the Christian church in Glasco. Rev. R.R. Kaiser of Herington, Kansas, conducted the services.
