Description	:	Kate E. Givan, 92, longtime Grant resident, died Friday, June 12, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. The daughter of Elmer S. Smith and Barbara Rupp, she was born April 20, 1889 in Grant, Iowa. She graduated from Grant High School in 1905 and lived her entire life in the Grant Community until moving to Heritage House in Atlantic in 1974. She was married Clark William Givan on February 11,1911 on her parents farm in Grant and they farmed there until moving to Grant in 1953. She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, United Methodist... Read More	Kate E. Givan, 92, longtime Grant resident, died Friday, June 12, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. The daughter of Elmer S. Smith and Barbara Rupp, she was born April 20, 1889 in Grant, Iowa. She graduated from Grant High School in 1905 and lived her entire life in the Grant Community until moving to Heritage House in Atlantic in 1974. She was married Clark William Givan on February 11,1911 on her parents farm in Grant and they farmed there until moving to Grant in 1953. She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Farm Bureau and served on the Montgomery County Council of Christian Education Board and Montgomery County Board of Education. Mrs. Givan helped organize the Homemakers Club, was a member of the Women’s Federated Clubs of Iowa, and a charter member of the Federated Sunshine Garden Club of Grant, served as a 4 H Leader for many years and was named Montgomery County Homemaker of 1954. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. C. A. (Nellie) Lantz of Elliott; a nephew, Gerald S. Schuler of Grant, and 13 other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Rolla Smith and Fred Smith; a niece, Dorothy Rae McClellan, who the Givans reared from the age of 9 months. Memorial services was held Monday afternoon at Grant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Fitch officiating, Mrs. Earl Spiker was organist and selections were “How Great Thou Art” and “Abide With Me.” Roland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
