Description	:	NELLIE MAY SMITH LENZ Nellie May Smith was born December 8, 1894, the youngest of four children born to Elmer and Bertha Smith in Milford (Grant). Nellie entered into rest February 28, 1986 at the Stanton Care Center at the age of 91. She was married to Carl Henry Schuler December 12, 1912, at the home of her parents. Read More	NELLIE MAY SMITH LENZ Nellie May Smith was born December 8, 1894, the youngest of four children born to Elmer and Bertha Smith in Milford (Grant). Nellie entered into rest February 28, 1986 at the Stanton Care Center at the age of 91. She was married to Carl Henry Schuler December 12, 1912, at the home of her parents. To this union was born a son, Gerald Smith Schuler and daughter, Lola Grace. After Carl passed away, Nellie married Francis McClellan and they had a daughter, Dorothy. Nellie was married to Clarence Lenz on July 25, 1923, and they lived on the same farm two and one half miles west of Grant, for 63 years. Nellie was a very active person. She helped organize The Thimble Club, The Home Study Club, She was an active member of Sunshine Garden Club and served all elective offices, Charles member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the church. Nellie joined the Legion Auxiliary in 1927 and served all offices in the unit and county. She was preceded in death by her parent, two brothers, Fred and Rolla Smith; sister, Kate E. Givan; two husbands; and two daughters, Dorothy McClellan and Lola Grace Taylor. She is survived by a son, Gerald Schuler and wife Clara of Villisca, and son-in-law Gerald Taylor of Grant; five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 1986, at the United Methodist Church at Grant, with Rev. Rich Johnson officiating. Music was by Mrs. Doug Kenworthy and Clyde Taylor. Music was “Mansion Over The Hilltop” and “Crossing The Bar.” Mrs. Vivian Karwal at the memory book, and flower bearers were Theodore Lenz, Jr. and Mr. and MRs. Bill Chalmers. Casket bearers were Craig Larry, Jerry Pelzer, Glenn Taylor, David Hart, Stanley Pelzer, and Sean Hagan. Ushers were Merlin Vetter and Allen Hines. Graveside services were by the American Legion Auxiliary Post #445, Grant. Interment was in the Grant Cemetery, Grant, Iowa. Arrangements were by Sutphen Funeral Home, Villisca, Iowa.
