Apr 5, 1946 Page 1 Mary Katherine Branstitre, oldest daughter of Henry and Emily Perry, was born in Wisconsin, April 27, 1872, and passed away at the Mary Lanning Memorial hospital (sic) in Hastings, Nebraska, March 25, 1946, at the age of 73 years, ten months and 28 days. When but a small child she came to Nebraska with her parents. settling on a homestead near Ong, Nebraska, where she resided until her marriage to John W. Branstitre, October 10, 1897. To this union four children were born: Vera May, who passed away in infancy; Lloyd of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; Mildred of Hastings, and Mrs. Inez Kerstein of Decatur, Illinois. She with her husband began housekeeping on a farm about two and a half miles southwest of Edgar where they lived for almost 40 years. In the spring of 1936, they left the farm and moved to Edgar where she resided until the time of her death. Her husband preceded her in death September 30, 1940. She confessed her faith in Christ and united with the Christian church (sic) of Edgar and remained a faithful member and worker until her death, attending services whenever her health permittted (sic). Her life was an example to others, and all could say, and say truthfully, "She hath done what she could." She leaves to mourn her departure besides her three children: one daughter-in-law, Edith Branstitre; one son-in-law, Fred Kerstein; three grandchildren, John and Sandra James and Jimmie Branstitre; four sisters, Rosina Branstitre of Edgar; Della Walters of Bertrand, Nellie Adden of Oxford and Florence Littell of Dayton, Ohio; four brothers, Charles and Guy of Oxford, Will of San Diego, California, and Henry of Edgar; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a devoted wife and mother and a friend to all especially in the time of trouble or sorrow and will be greatly missed by every one who knew her. Her days of toil are over, Her hands are quiet now; Fair angels closed her tired eyes, And smoothed her troubles brow, Her lips are still forever, Her soul to heaven has flown; While hearts are aching here below, Within the broken home. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 28, 1946, at 2:30 p.m., at the Christian church (sic) with Charles Harris in charge. Harold McGhie sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Goodnight Here, Goodmorning Up There." Mrs. C. B. Smith Jr. was at the piano. Pallbearers were: Irvin Branstitre, Leonard Gunn, Newt Gunn, Jesse Williams, Darwin Perry and Walter Varwig. Interment was made in the Edgar cemetery (sic).
