Kuhns, 68,were held Saturday, April 9, 1994 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with burial in the Wayne Zion Cemetery, with Military Honors. The Rev. Robert Hannemann officiated at the services. Kermit W. Kuhns of Monticello died Thursday, April 7, at the Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, following an extended illness. He was born Sept. 1,1925 in Wayne Township, Jones County, the son of Lestus and Nellie Henrichs Kuhns. He received his education in the rural schools near Scotch Grove. Following his education, he started farming. Kermit W. Kuhns and Frances Mae Buckner were married Nov. 15,1944 at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Following his return from service, he worked for the Monticello Dairy and later at the Pop Factory. In 1953, he went to work at Georgia-Pacific, where he worked until his retirement in 1987. He also worked part time at Schmidt Bros. Phillips 66. Survivors include two sons, Merle and his wife Kris of North Liberty, Glenn and his wife, Carolyn of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Michele, Toby, Sarah and Ryan; five sisters, Lois Eilers of Scotch Grove, Eunice Allen, Celestia Gerdes and Greta Aldrich, all of Monticello, and Arlene Holub of Stitzer, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Casket bearers were Ray Freese, Jim Siebels, Carl Schoon, John Wright, Wayne Wolf and Jim Benter.
