A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, October 24, 2005, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Lay Assistant Richard L. Scott officiating. Kimberly Lee Mahaffey was born on November 28, 1961 at Mason City, daughter of Roger and Naoma (Jensen) Bergan. Kim was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1980, then attended NIACC and obtained her nursing degree. Kimberly was united in marriage to Mark Mahaffey on February 27, 1982 at the Zion Lutheran Church. She held nursing positions at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota; Bismarck Hospital, North Dakota; Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake; and was an Opportunity Village nurse for 15 years until she had to retire in 2003, due to health problems. Kim was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Kim enjoyed volleyball, bowling, reading, wildlife, and nature. She loved making others laugh, writing poetry, listening to music, going to rock concerts, and planning and organizing events and celebrations. She dearly loved their family dog- Fancy. But most of all, she enjoyed watching her beloved son, Luke, grow up and become a fine, young man. She had a special place in her heart for those who were less fortunate and in need, and would help them out whenever possible. Kim will be greatly missed by her husband Mark Mahaffey, Clear Lake; one son, Lucas Mahaffey, Clear Lake; mother and step-father, Naoma (Sam) Gesme, Clear Lake; father and mother-in-law, Ralph (Carolyn) Mahaffey, Clear Lake; five siblings, Cheryl (Steve) Murphy, Augusta, Georgia; Mike (Sonni) Bergan, Clear Lake; Julie (Tom) Pueggel, Garner; Sandy (Dave) Barnes, Waterloo; and Steve (Janet) Bergan, Evansdale; sister-in-law, Sherri (Dave) Luick, Lakeville, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Mike (Amy) Mahaffey, Clear Lake; grandmother-in-law, Eleanor House, Stewartville, Minnesota; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Bergan; sister, Sue Van Every; nephew, Shane Nielsen; step-father, Joe Halsne; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
