Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Orvedahl Chapel and at Our Saviour's Lutheran church, with the pastor, Rev. R.A. Peterson officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in Clare township where her parents lie buried. Laura Hasvold was born December 7, 1878, at Coon Valley, Wis., from where a number of Flandreau residents emigrated. She was the daughter of Lauritz and Helene Hasvold. The family moved in 1882 to Moody county, then Dakota Territory, to settle on a farm in Clare township where they lived until retiring to a quiet life in this city in 1904. As a young lady, Miss Hasvold attended Flandreau high school and the Lutheran Normal School now Augustana college, in Sioux Falls. She loved literature and music, and was the first organist in her home congregation as well as serving in that capacity in the present Our Saviour's church. She was a teacher of unusual ability who taught in the schools of Moody county, in Denver and Golden, Colo., and in Spokane, Wash. In June, 1919, she was married in San Francisco, Calif., to Michael J. Cassidy who died November 21, 1948. Mrs. Cassidy is survived by two brothers: Helmer of Lomita, Calif., and Wilhelm of Flandreau; by two sisters: Mrs. Lou (Aldia) Buck and Mrs. S.L. (Hulda) May, both of Flandreau, many nephews and nieces. Five brothers - Adolph, Melvin, Gustav, Herman and Alvin - have preceded her in death.
