Sept 9, 1887 Miss Laura Wilson will take a course in painting and drawing at the Delaware Ohio University this fall March 1, 1895 The ladies of St Paris, old and young, are enjoying a very active and beneficial season of practice in the "manly art" of physical culture. The processes as taught by Miss Laura Wilson and Genie Wallace consist of gymnastics, athletics, dietetics, and cosmetics, elocution, respiration, expression and other secondary branches of athletics and almost everything excepting politics, navigation and religion. But while they carefully avoid the introducation of these great vital elements to the social world, it is not because they are not compatible or congenial and the higher aim and results of the school of culture will be to better prepare their pupils for better, stronger more active and more pleasant lives. Better because it developes the mental abilities through the education and appreciation of the physical. They are taught to admire the perfection of their physical organizations and how to correct deformities. More active lies because as one becomes interested in anything she becomes more active in the pursuit and practice of it and to know and appreciate how tearfully and wonderfully she is made. Miss Wilson has in her class a large number of the leading married ladies of our village many of whom never had the opportunity to study the sciences of diet, cooking and dressing according to hygienic rules. Many of them have never known the use of hundreds of joints and muscles in them were moved and governed by laws of motion which had been reduces to rules. Many of them are happy to know they can train themselves, their movements, their shapes, their appetites and their voices in almost an degree to suit their fancies and their ideas of propriety and beauty. They are learning to know what they missed when younger, what they will take pleasure in teaching to others, for their health and cultivation. Miss Genie has the younger set in her class, mostly school girls, who are at the age when their ambitions to appear and to act their best are at the zenith. She is teaching them the principles of education, including movement positions, athletics and voice. The Ohio newspapers announced recently that Dr Forward has now invented and perfected a way of distilling oil which yields 48 percent of gasoline, whereas the old method yielded but 18 percent and saying that the new way is now working splendidly on a commercial basis. He has Standard Oil men and Henry Ford dancing attendance upon him and it is said he can barely escape being worth many millions. What's more, it serves him right.
