Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of local arrangements. Born on April 11, 1938, in Bangor, Iowa, Laverne was the son of Alonzo and Georgia (Chandler) DeLawyer. He grew up in the Bangor/New Providence area and moved to Marshalltown at the age of 13. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1956 and honorably served our country in the Army Reserve for six years. On July 24, 1960, he was united in marriage to Laura Schnelle in Newton, Iowa. The couple made their home in Marshalltown where Laverne was employed at Fisher Controls for more than 38 years before retiring in 1994. They relocated to Fremont in 1998. Laverne was a member of U.A.W Local #893 and he was director of the Eye Openers Drum & Bugle Corps for three years. He enjoyed being with his car and motorcycle friends but his greatest love was his family and grandchildren. Since moving to Fremont, he attended Fremont Berean Bible Church and was active in playing Santa Claus for various organizations and families. He will be missed by his wife of more than 47 years, Laura of Fremont; three children: Jeffrey (Lori) DeLawyer of South Jordan, Utah, Sheryl (Perry) Staver and Sandra (David) Edler, all of Fremont; two brothers, Floyd DeLawyer of Boise, Idaho and Gary (Billie) DeLawyer of New Providence; five grandchildren: Leann (Joshua) Watson of Fremont, Rachel Edler (fiance, Zak Pishnotte) of Lincoln, Neb., Scott Staver and Ashley Staver, both of Fremont, and Galadriel Lee of Salt Lake City, Utah. In eternal life, Laverne joins his parents and a brother, John.
