Survivors include his widow, four sons, Alfred, Rapid City; Gerald, Richards – Gebaur Air Force Base, MO.; Robert, Springfield, Mo.; Clarence, Sioux Falls; three daughters, Margaret, Mrs. Hank Ufen, Miller; Viola, Mrs. Art Barnes, San Francisco; Hannah, Mrs. Merle Carter, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 21 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; four brothers, John, St. Lawrence; Ben, Monroe; August and Avert, both of Miller and fur sisters, Miss Lena Gortmaker, Miller; Mrs. William Bailey, Billings, Mont.; Mrs. Eilert Rand, Humboldt and Mrs. Ben Boenhoff, Sioux Falls. Gortmaker was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, five brothers and one sister.
