Description	:	Lena Gortmaker Lena (Tautji) Gortmaker was born July 4, 1904, at Canistota to Jurin and Anna (Helmers) Gortmaker. She moved with her parents to a farm south of Miller. Her mother died when Lena was two years old and she lived with Mr. and Mrs. John Helmers at Titonkia, IA. In 1910, she came back to Hand County to live with her family. She kept house for her father and brothers and later moved to a farm near Wessington, then to Miller with her two brothers, August and Avert Gortmaker. She became a resident of Prairie Good Samaritan... Read More	Lena Gortmaker Lena (Tautji) Gortmaker was born July 4, 1904, at Canistota to Jurin and Anna (Helmers) Gortmaker. She moved with her parents to a farm south of Miller. Her mother died when Lena was two years old and she lived with Mr. and Mrs. John Helmers at Titonkia, IA. In 1910, she came back to Hand County to live with her family. She kept house for her father and brothers and later moved to a farm near Wessington, then to Miller with her two brothers, August and Avert Gortmaker. She became a resident of Prairie Good Samaritan Center in July, 1990. Lena is survived by three sisters, Florence Bailey of Billings, MT, Annie Rand of Humboldt and Arie Boekhoff of Sioux Falls, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Tena Engelmann and ten brothers, Jurin, George, Weert, Lear, John, Andy, Avert, Ben, August and Augusta. Pallbearers were Scottie Gibson, Don Deuter, Rodney Gortmaker, Ivan Rand, George Engelmann and Bill Gortmaker.
