Leftwich is the earliest spelling, other records have his name spelled "Leftrich" , "Leftwitch", "Leftwick" and "Leftridge" and a nickname of "Wick" which make me believe that Leftwick was probably his original name. Wick was a farmer. note; some researchers believe that he and his siblings aren't paternally or genetically Bedwells, but this hasn't been proven as yet through DNA testing. There is a Bedwell DNA project to prove or disprove this fact, that has been started. The followng part of his bio. and the following obit was furnished by his 3g Granddaughter Rosemary Hoover, Trustee for Webb Cemetery Assn. On March 14, 1860: A meeting was held at Greenbush to establish a corporation to be called the Greenbush Public Burying Ground (Book L, p.438). The officers of the Greenbush Cemetery Association were Wm. H. Anderson, President (buried in row 13); Leftrich [Leftridge] Bedwell, Vice-President (buried in row 9); Benjamin Ogle Perkins, Secretary, is not buried at Webb Cemetery. Benjamin operated the general store and coal business in Greenbush. Thurs., Sep 3, 1885 Indianola Advocate-Tribune Prole - One of our oldest settlers. Mr. L. Bedwell, died at his home August 16, at the age of 66. Mr. Bedwell came to this county in the spring of 1847 from Missouri, and lived on the same land obtained from the government at the time of his death. He had by economy and industry accumulated a good property. This information was given by my cousin Rosemary Hoover: Thurs., Aug 20, 1885 Advocate Tribune Indianola, Ia Spring Hill – Mr. L. Bedwell was buried at the cemetery northwest of this place at 4 p.m. on last Sabbath.
