Read More	Cloud County Cemetery Book, Volume 4, page 162 ************************** Glasco Sun, Jan. 1, 1959, page 1: Rites Held Friday For Lemuel Cunningham Lemuel Russell Cunningham, the fourth child of Lemuel G. and Nellie Bates Cunningham, was born July 13, 1876, at Cedar Point, Chase County, Kansas, and died at the Beloit Community Hospital on December 24, 1958, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 11 days. When four and one-half years old, he came with his parents in a covered wagon to Delphos, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. He attended schools in and near Delphos and graduated from the Delphos High School with the Class of 1895, and took a short course in agriculture at Kansas State College. In 1896, he with his mother and two younger sisters moved to the C.J. Ballou farm northeast of Glasco. It was there he began his chosen profession of farming. On May 1, 1902, he married Miss Rachael Rogers of Glasco, Kansas, and to them were born four children: Mrs. Julia Ruley and Lemuel R. Cunningham, Jr., both of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Nellie Nye, Ness City, Kans.; and Louis Cunningham of Tulsa, Okla. Feeling the desire to own his home, Mr. Cunningham, his wife and two small daughters moved to Rawlins County, Kansas, where he homesteaded 160 acres of land. After the death of his wife in 1926, he returned to his boyhood home near Glasco. On October 13, 1937, he was united in marriage to Miss Alma Bishop and they made their home on the Bishop farm until their retirement to Glasco in 1955. Mr. Cunningham was a farmer all his active life. He loved the soil, and was interested in all improved farm practices. For these efforts he received the 1947 Bankers Award for Soil Conservation. He was an early member of the Farm Bureau and assisted in its worthwhile projects. He helped organize the Sunny 4-H Club and was one of its leaders as long as his health permitted. Church was an important part of his life, and he worked in some department of it wherever he lived. He was a member of the Glasco Methodist Church and served in several offices, including Sabbath School Superintendent. He also was a member of the Delphos IOOF Lodge, No. 149, for more than 60 years. He genuinely loved people and although he was confined to his home most of the last years he kept a lively interest in the activity of his relatives and friends. Besides his devoted wife Alma, he is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. N.H. Morton and Mrs. A.D. Holloway, both of California. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Glasco, Kansas, on Friday, December 26, 1958, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. with the Rev. John Baker officiating. Vocal music by Ronald King, Dick Teasley, Louis Cool, Bill Cool. Organist was Nadine Teasley. Pallbearers were Richard King, Herman Bates, Roger Ballou, Kenneth Ballou, Louis Ballou, and Lester Pilcher.
