Aged 45 years 4 months and 10 days. She was married to Russel Cunningham May 1st, 1902, being brought back to her childhood home just 24 years from the time she left a happy bride. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Julia Benton of Blue Springs, Missouri, Mrs. Nellie Nye, Lemuel and Perry Louis of Ness City. She was a graduate for the Concordia High School in the class of 1899, was an accomplished musician and a successful school teacher for a number of years. In 1906 she with her husband and two little girls moved to Rawlins County, Kansas where they shared the ups and downs of their western neighbors. In 1913 they moved near St. Joseph, Missouri, where they engaged in fruit raising along with other farm work. Since 1920 they have resided near Ness City. Rachel was always an enthusiastic worker for the temperance cause and wherever she lived allied herself with the Women's Christian Temperance Union and for the last few years has helped to carry on the essay contest work of that organization, in the public schools of Ness County. She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge and was always at the piano when needed to help carry on their work. She was a member of the Methodist church of Ness City and took great comfort in the promise of the future life. She was a home loving woman, of a cheerful jovial disposition and even to the last endured her affliction with patience and fortitude. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her loss: her aged father and mother, three brothers, Alfred, Rollo and Ad, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Ballou, all of Glasco, also two granddaughters besides other relatives and a host of friends. A faithful wife, a kind loving mother, a devoted daughter has gone to her reward. The appreciation of her sterling character was shown by the many flowers sent to her from all parts of the country during her illness. Short funeral services were held at the home at five o'clock Friday evening conducted by the Women's Christian Temperance Union assisted by the Rebekah lodge. Regular services were held at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rogers Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. G.S. Smith. The music was furnished by the Pilcher Quartette with Mrs Brooks at the piano, and by Mrs. Jack Scranton on the violin with Mrs. Gladys Wilkins at the piano. Cousins of the deceased: Gaylord King, Earl King, Cool Blake, Joe Cool, Charley Bates and Wm. Olson acted as pall bearers. Interment was made in the Glasco cemetery. Relatives aside from the immediate family and friends attending the funeral from a distance were Will Cunningham and son Keith of Fairview, Oklahoma; Charles Bates from Coolidge, Kansas; Mrs. Gene Cool and son Mark, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Cool from Miltonvale; Mrs. Lillie Shaver from Atwood, Kansas; Mrs. Eggleston and son John from Atwood, Kansas; and Mrs. Ruth Fritz from McDonald, Kansas.
