Read More	Death came to Mrs. Lena Bauer almost without warning, Saturday evening, August 6th, at 6 o'clock, at her home on 614 Blunt Street, Clay Center, Kansas. Mrs. Bauer had been in declining health for several years but was quite well Saturday, and visited with one of her sons late in the afternoon. She ate her evening meal at five o'clock and was stricken soon after that. Her life story is similar to that of other good women, who devote their best years in service to others, and are loved by their family and friends. Lena Vogelman was born in Halle Wurtemburg, Germany, Nov. 24, 1865, and passed away in Clay Center, Kansas, August 6, 1938, aged seventy-three years, eight months and fifteen days. When nine years of age her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Vogelman with their family, left their native land and came to Clay County, Kansas, and located on a farm on Mall Creek, two and one-half miles east of Broughton. In the spring of 1884, she was united in marriage to Martin Bauer. Four children were born: Ernest and Harry of Broughton, William of Clay Center, and Mrs. Nellie Meek of Melvern, Kansas, all of whom survive. Her husband departed this life in October 1910. In the spring of 1918, Mrs. Bauer moved to Clay Center, where she made her home until her death. Besides her children, she is survived by seventeen grandchildren; three brothers, Fred, George, and Phillip Vogelman of Butler County, Kansas; and two sisters, Mrs. Rosina Dietrich of Clay Center, and Mrs. Katie Gieseman of Lawrence, Kansas. One brother, John Vogelman, and one sister, Mrs. George Carls, passed away within the past year. This is the story briefly told of another of our sturdy pioneers whose life was full of drama and tragedy and joy and triumph and of the fruit of their labor do we enjoy a full life. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, with a short service at the Peterson Chapel, and at the Broughton M.E. church at 2 o'clock, with Rev. L.F. Arend and Rev. Hatter in charge. Appropriate music was furnished for the services. Burial was made in the Broughton Cemetery.
