Description	:	Martin J. Bauer was born in Jo Davies county, Ill., December 7, 1861, and died at his home near Broughton, Friday morning about 1 o'clock, at the age of 48 years, 10 months, and 7 days. In the fall of 1868 the deceased came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bauer, to the home southeast of Broughton, where he has lived ever since. Bauer was born in Jo Davies county, Ill., December 7, 1861, and died at his home near Broughton, Friday morning about 1 o'clock, at the age of 48 years, 10 months, and 7 days. In the fall of 1868 the deceased came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bauer, to the home southeast of Broughton, where he has lived ever since. In the spring of 1884 he was married to Miss Lena Vogelman, youngest daughter of John Vogelman. Mr. Bauer has been a great sufferer the past year being afflicted with a cancer. The number of operations gone through have been of no avail, only relieving the suffering for a time. He was one who held the highest respect of his fellow citizens, and a member of both the Oddfellows and Woodmen lodges. He was numbered among the thrifty farmers of Clay county and made a great success of this business. He was prominent among all Clay county residents, as was manifested by the large gathering who assembled at the church Sunday to pay their last respects to the dead. To mourn his death he leaves his wife; three sons, Ernest, William, and Harry; one daughter, Nellie; his mother; three sisters, and two brothers. His mother, Mrs. Margaret Bauer, resides at Welcome, Wisc., with Mrs. Julia Jaeger, one of the sisters. The other sisters are Mrs. Kate Jaeger of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Mrs. Maggie Knight of Whitechurch, Mo.; John A., the eldest brother at Hayden, NM., and Joseph, who makes his home at White Church, Mo. Short funeral services were held at the Bauer home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon and public services at 2:30 at the M. E. church at Broughton, conducted by Rev. George Brown of the Congregational church of Clay Center, assisted by Rev. Marple of the M. E. church at Broughton. Interment took place at the Broughton Cemetery.
