Leo Bialek was born at Staunton, Illinois on March 23, 1909. He was the youngest of four children born to John and Amalie Bialek. When Leo was a child, the Bialeks came to Montana to a homestead 13 miles south of Inverness. Leo grew up on the family farm and received his formal education at local country schools. In the years that followed, he lived and worked on the farm.
