January 29, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church Guttenberg, Iowa Interment: Guttenberg City Cemetery Darlene Zittergruen, age 82, of Guttenberg, IA, died Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on October 31, 1930 on the family farm near Millville to Fred and Millie (Friedlein) Blume. Darlene received her education from the Millville Country School. Darlene needed to keep busy so she always found something to do whether it was sewing, mending or anything else she was capable of helping with. On October 17, 1949, she was united in marriage with Robert "Bob" Zittergruen at St. John's Church in Guttenberg. Three children were born to this union. Darlene farmed alongside her husband and she also worked at Muters Utah, Guttenberg Industries and 7 years at Casey's General Store. When they could, Bob and Darlene loved to go dancing together. Darlene and her husband were longtime members of St. John's Church. Darlene was also active with Ladies Aid and Prayer Group. She enjoyed visiting with friends on the phone, cooking especially cookies, baking her homemade buns, homemade noodles and homemade ice cream. Painting, embroidering "Chickens" and playing cards were all things Darlene made time for as well. Most of all Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family, grandkids and great grandkids. She always enjoyed the holidays, especially her Halloween Birthday. Darlene is survived by her two children, Pat (Steve) Schroeder of Saint Olaf and Steve (Julie) Zittergruen of Guttenberg; grandchildren, Chris (Jody) Schroeder, Jodee (Dino) Rizzitano, Mike (Lisa) Hinzman, Jenn Hinzman, Joe and Nick Zittergruen and Jill (Jason) Pierce; 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1997, daughter Pam Hinzman in 2005; sister Viola Kickbush and brother Verni Blume.
