Jordan was born Dec. 4, 1868 in Henry County, Illinois and came to Nodaway county with his parents at the age of 15. He departed this life at 11:50 o'clock Sunday night, October 29, at his home in Skidmore. On September 6, 1889, he was united in marriage to Lena Florence McDowell at her home north of Maryville. Mrs. Jordan preceded him in death, December 31, 1937. To this union four children were born, Earl T. Jordan, of Skidmore, Florence M. Jordan of the home, Nell Meeker of Trenton, MO, and Leonard D. Jordan who died, April 26, 1919. A sister also survives, Mrs. Charles Tweed of Oklahoma City and three grandsons, Jordan Meeker of Trenton, and Jack and Max Jordan. Mr. Jordan who had been employed in a hardware store in Maryville for a number of years moved to Skidmore in 1906 where he has continued in the hardware business for the past 33 years. He was first associated in the firm of Jordan, Thomas and Co in the I.O.O.F. building and later dissolving this partnership and taking his son, Earl T. as a partner, moving to their present location. Mr. Jordan was an active member of the Christian Church and IOOF lodge and the Rebekah lodge and served on the telephone board of directors until his recent illness when he resigned. Funeral services for Mr. Jordan were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. October 31, at the Skidmore Christian Church with Rev. Martin pastor of the church officiating at the service. Burial was in Miriam Cemetery in Maryville, Missouri. Music was furnished by a male quartet composed of: J.W. Pierce of Graham, Rev. Hackman, Laverne Tompkins and F.H. Barrett, Skidmore. Solo by Earl Lincoln, Maryville. Pianist, Miss Mable Dysart. Flower girls were: Mrs. Nita Worl, Mrs. Eula Barrett, Mrs. Mildred Hart, and Mrs. Lois Dodge.
