Read More	Death of Lewis Goodrich -- Lewis Goodrich was born September 17, 1840, in the town of Manlius Onondaga county, New York, and died at his home two miles south of Fairmont, Monday evening, November 2, 1914, at 6 o'clock of carcinoma of the stomach and liver. His age at the time of his death was 74 years, 1 month and 15 days. From Onondaga he went with his parents to Salina, N. Y which is now the first ward of Syracuse. His first recollections of boyhood seem to date back to this place. When a little past eight years of age the Goodrich home was broken up by the death of the mother. As the youngest child of a family of ten children he then made his home with an older brother and his sisters until 1854, when, with his brother Julius he came to Rockford, Ill., where they located on a farm. After residing on the farm for five years they left for Wisconsin, shortly returning to Illinois, where they located on a faun near Sterling. It was near this farm that Mr. Goodrich began his work as a school teacher. The years from this on were busy with teaching and attending schools of the state and making further preparations for his chosen profession. In the fall of 1871 he became superintendent of the graded school in Pecatonica, Ill., where he taught successfully for twenty consecutive years. On December 23, 1872, he married Miss Laura Campbell who died in 1876 leaving a babe, Lewis Goodrich, Jr., five days old. On August 20, 1879, he married Miss Eva Campbell, daughter of Jeremiah and Cynthia Campbell Durand township, Illinois. To this union were born three sons Herbert Bryant, July 16, 1880, who died when eleven years of age, Willard Emerson, March 22, 1882, in Pecatonia, Ill., and Homer Campbell, September 23, 1892, in Fairmont. It was February 22, 1892, when Mr. Goodrich came to Fairmont and located on his farm. During the school years of 1895 and 1896 he taught in the Fairmont Public schools and in 1904 was appointed county superintendent of schools to fill the vacancy made by the death of J. L. Adams. In 1906 he was elected to the state senate from the Twenty-fourth senatorial district and served one term. That term is said to be a record breaking term for the amount of work done. Mr. Goodrich leaves to mourn his departure his wife and three sons, who are all well known to all the people of this community.
