Description	:	Willard Emerson, son of Lewis and Eva Campbell Goodrich, was born March 22, 1882, at Pecatonica, Ill. He departed this life unexpectedly April 28, 1968, while pursuring a favorite pleasure, visiting with friends at the H.H. Palmer home. He was aged 86 years, 1 month and 6 days. Read More	Willard Emerson, son of Lewis and Eva Campbell Goodrich, was born March 22, 1882, at Pecatonica, Ill. He departed this life unexpectedly April 28, 1968, while pursuring a favorite pleasure, visiting with friends at the H.H. Palmer home. He was aged 86 years, 1 month and 6 days. In the spring of 1892 Willard moved with his parents to a farm south of Fairmont, Neb. He graduated from Fairmont high school with the class of 1901, and from that time until retirement was engaged in farming. November 30, 1916, he was married to Lillian Thompson, also a graduate of Fairmont high school. To this union were born three children, Lewis Edward, who passed away in infancy, Herbert Thompson and Eleanor Lucile. Willard served as a member of school boards in both town and country districts, was township assessor, a cemetery board member and was on the board of county supervisors for 12 years. He enjoyed membership in the Congregational church (now United Church of Christ) and served it faithfully. He also received much pleasure as a member of Fairmont Masonic Lodge No. 48. After the death of his wife in December, 1964, Willard continued to live in their home in Fairmont, where he welcomed friends. Those who could come to him, Willard called upon frequently. He willingly served as a guide for anyone returning to Fairmont seeking old time residents and enjoyed reminiscing for the Fillmore County History. Willard's humor and optimism and felling of goodwill toward his fellow man never left him through the years of drough and depression. Willard was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert B. and Lewis Goodrich and grandchild, Larry Robert Songster. Surviving are a son, Herbert, his wife, Hilda and their children, Linda, Deborah, and Herbert C. of Northridge, Cal. a daughter, Eleanor and her husband, Robert Songster, and their children, Alan and Ann of Exeter, Neb.; a brother, Homer C. of Fairmont, besides nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were conducted at the United Church of Christ in Fairmont at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, Rev. William Reitmeier officiating. A quartet, Mr. and Mrs. Federal Bridgman and Mr. and Mrs. harold Smith, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden.: Miss Linda Smith was organist. Pallbearers were Masonic brothers, Don Beavers, William Boren, Lloyd Dawson, Robert Eckerdt, Hubert McClellan and Leslie Miles. Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery.
