Funeral services were held Monday, June 20, 1988 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Loup City with Rev. Sharee Kelly officiating. Music was provided by Wilma Cook with Tom Youngquist singing "Peace in the Valley" and "Saved by Grace". Visitation was held Sunday, June 19, at the Loup City Memorial Funeral Home in Loup City from 1 until 9 p.m. Lewis L. Adams was born April 4, 1895, near Bellwood to Russell and Arminta Oliver Adams. He grew up and attended area schools near Bellwood. He moved with his family to Sherman County. He attended college at Broken Bow for one year and then attended York College for three years. He worked briefly at the bank in Berwyn. On July 6, 1919, he married Bessie Fisher at Broken Bow. He farmed for three years in Custer County before moving to Sherman County to farm. He farmed until 1960. For many years, he worked as an assessor and briefly operated a produce store in Litchfield. He was well known around the area for downing water and for irrigation wells. The last four years he lived in the Nursing Home in Loup City. He was a member of the United Methodist Church for 75 years, and a member of the Masonic Lodge 170 of Mason City, the Lone Elm Grange, and the Lone Elm School Board for many years. He served on the Agri-Conservation Board during the 1930's and 40's. He was a member of the Litchfield Village Board for eight years and chaired the Litchfield Manor Board from 1972 until 1984. He was a member of the local senior citizens organization. He is survived by his wife, Bessie, of Loup City; two daughters, Jean Quadhamer and Darlene Fuerstenau, both of Kearney; one son, Dale of Pasadena, Tex.; two brothers, Chester and Vernon, both of Loup City; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia, three brothers, six sisters, and two great-grandchildren.
