The organist was Mrs. Mabel Dunn. Flower bearers were Mrs. Francis Murphy, Mrs. Walter Matthael, and Mrs. Freda Archer. Casket bearers included Willis Gourley, Thomas Gourley, Dean Archer, Jerry Penton, Marvin Focht, and Jack Wright. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Lewis Thomas Gourley, better known as “Toots” Gourley, was born northwest of Villisca, Iowa, October 1, 1886 and passed away at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa on Wednesday, January 27, 1965, at the age of 78 years. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth attending the public schools. In 1906 he went to live in the sanhills of Nebraska where he later homesteaded. Following this he came to Henderson, Iowa where he engage in the implement business. About 1938 he returned to Villisca where he assisted in the care of his parents until death. On February 23, 1943, he was united in marriage with Beeda Moore at a ceremony at Plattsmouth, Nebraska. During the succeeding years, until poor health required his retirement, he was employed at the Archer Pool Hall, except for six years when he was n partnership with Carl Taylor in a cigar store. Toots was a great sportsman loving to hunt and fish. Mr. Gourley was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Beeda of Villisca, one sister, Mrs. Abbie Kuntz of Santa Barbara, California; one brother William F. Gourley of Idaho Falls, Idaho; one Uncle Fletcher Gourley of Red Oak; two nieces, one nephew, many cousins, and other friends and relatives. Villisca Review, Thursday, February 4, 1965, page 4
