Lillian was born November 23, 1911 to David and Marie (Tintinger) Nevin at Big Timber and grew up on their ranch on the Sweet Grass. Read More	From the Big Timber "Pioneer", August 12-18, 2005: Lillian Smith, 93, of Big Timber passed away August 5, 2005 at Pioneer Medical Center. Lillian was born November 23, 1911 to David and Marie (Tintinger) Nevin at Big Timber and grew up on their ranch on the Sweet Grass. One of 11 children, Lillian learned how to do the many things required to keep a family and small ranch operating. Lillian began sewing first for her baby sister, Clare, and made most of her sister's clothes as they grew up. Lillian loved to sew and had an exceptional eye for color and design. She could look at a picture of a dresss or an outfit and duplicate it without a pattern. She made many of her own patterns and not only sewed for herself and her family, but for nearly everyone in the county. She became the seamstress of choice, creating everything from buckskin jackets to wedding gowns. She dressed the cheerleaders of Sweet Grass for many years, and because her work was so beautiful, one client brought her fabrics from France and Italy, from which she created beautiful suits, dresses and hats. In 1930 she married Gilbert "Gib" Earl Smith. Gil and Lillian had three children, Lilly, Earl and Louise. Tragedy struck the family in 1959 when Earl was taken from them at 16. Lillian was widowed in 1985 after Gib lost his battle with leukemia. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Clare Smith, Thressa Clark, Dorothy Hankins, Elsie Jones, Bertha Nevin, Beth Nevin, Alice Nevin, Oswald Nevin, David Nevin and Tommy Nevin. Lillian is survived by her daughters, Lilly Norris of Queen Creek, AZ and Louise (Tim) Turner of Bozeman; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13 at the Evangelical Church, 302 Bramble, with Pastor Bryan Baker officiating. Graveside committal will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Lowry Funeral Home assisted the family with services.
