JOHNSON PASSES AWAY AT HOSPITAL Mrs. John Johnson, 61, resident of the Birmingham community, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 25, around 9:30 o'clock at the Jefferson county hospital. She had been seriously ill for the past 14 days. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 o'clock from the Weston Behner Funeral Home, with Rev. Edward A. Piiper officiating. Burial will take place in the Evergreen cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was born on March 16, 1882 in Jefferson county, near Salina (sic. not necessarily in Salina, however). She was the daughter of the late C. V. and Emma Larson. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was united in marriage to John Johnson on March 4, 1925. Surviving are her husband, John Johnson, and two step-sons, J. Raymond Johnson of Gowanda, N.Y., and Lee Johnson of Fairfield. (sic. Also survived by) three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Gardner and Mrs. Maud Hollander of Fairfield, Mrs. Eva Overholser of Lockridge and four brothers, Elmer Harris Larson of Fairfield, Clifford Larson of Ypsilanti, Mich., and James Larson of Winfield. ----------------------- MRS. JOHN JOHNSON Lillie Larson was born in Jefferson county, Iowa on March 16, 1882 the oldest of ten children of Charles V. Larson and his wife Emma. She passed to her eternal reward at 9:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, (November 25, 1943) at the Jefferson county hospital. She was 61 years of age last March. As a girl she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the New Sweden Lutheran church northeast of Fairfield. Her entire life was spent in this community, many years as a homemaker for various members of her family. She was married on March 4, 1925 in Memphis, Missouri, to Mr. John Johnson of this community. They made their home on the farm owned by Mr. Johnson in Van Buren county. Mrs. Johnson was a quiet person, most contented in her own home and family surroundings. She had been in failing health since last spring. During five weeks in August and September she was in the Jefferson county hospital for treatment. She was then taken to her home, but it became necessary for her to re-enter the hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks prior to her death. In addition to her husband she is survived by two step-sons: J. Raymond Johnson of Gowanda, N. Y. and Lee Johnson of Fairfield, Iowa. There are three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Gardner and Mrs. Maude Hollander of Fairfield, and Mrs. Eva Overholser of Lockridge. And there are four brothers, Elmer Larson and Harris Larson of Fairfield, Clifford Larson of Ypsilanti, Michigan and James Larson of Winfield. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. A. Piper, D. D., Saturday afternoon, Nov. 27, 1943 at 3:00 o’clock at the Weston Behner funeral home. Mrs. Glen Bates and Mrs. Wm. Neibert sang, with Mrs. George Rowley, accompanist. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers were: Pitt Johnson, Mace Clarridge, Mark Waters, Ralph Stout, Hal Tedrow, Elmer Canaday. Source: Van Buren Co.
