Read More	The Lord called Lois Mae "Jackie" Herr to heaven the evening of March 27, 2012. Jackie was born Lois Mae Hawkins on May 10, 1924 to J.C.W. and Zelda (McKinney) Hawkins of Fairfax, MO. She was the youngest of four children and grew up in the Fairfax area, graduating from Fairfax High School in 1942. Following high school, she attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, MO, graduating summa cum laude in 1946. Upon graduating, Jackie was hired at Humboldt High School and taught biology for one and a half years. During her brief teaching career in Humboldt, she met and later married Alfred Oliver Herr, a farmer northwest of Humboldt. From this marriage four children were born: Linda, Stan, Rock, and Sandy. While her children were growing up, Jackie devoted her time to their activities such as 4H, sports, music, and more. She also square danced, served as an officer of Music Parents, and painted china. In 1979, immediately following Alfred's death, Jackie began working as a teller at the Home State Bank in Humboldt, now American National Bank. While working there, she developed lifelong friendships which she valued for the rest of her days. After many years at the bank, she retired and moved to Humboldt, and eventually to Assisted Living. Jackie was well known for her vitality, integrity, practicality, and deep abiding Christian faith. Her life was centered on Christ and the church, and she dedicated her time and energy to the United Methodist Church, UMW, Vacation Bible School, the church choir, Sunday school, and Bible study. In addition to the service she gave to the church, she embodied the Christian spirit and truly lived each day in accordance to the teachings of the Bible. Jackie was a treasured friend and relative that will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Jackie passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska having reached the age of 87 years, ten months, and seventeen days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred, son Stan Herr, brother J.W. Hawkins; sisters, Gwen Dake and Marge Hawkins. Jackie is survived by her children: Linda Dodds and her husband Larry of Wellington, CO; Rock Herr and his wife Tina of Humboldt, NE; Sandy Potter and her husband Tom of Los Osos, CA; nine grandchildren: Luke, Ben, and Mark Dodds; Jacob, Elijah, and Austin Herr; and Samuel, Justine, and Nathan Potter; three great-grandchildren: Kyle, Wesley, and Oliver Dodds; and countless more relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Jaclyn Hoy officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1st at Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt with family greeting from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Humboldt United Methodist Church Online condolences may be sent to www.wherrymortuary.com.
