Description	:	Lorenz August Claus Petersen, son of Amos and Bertha (Zage) Petersen, was born on October 23, 1913 in Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized November 26, 1913 at Hanover Lutheran Church in rural Charter Oak. Lorenz was confirmed April 1, 1926 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Read More	Lorenz August Claus Petersen, son of Amos and Bertha (Zage) Petersen, was born on October 23, 1913 in Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized November 26, 1913 at Hanover Lutheran Church in rural Charter Oak. Lorenz was confirmed April 1, 1926 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. After graduating from rural schools, he assisted at home on the family farm and also worked out as a hired hand. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from October of 1942 until October of 1945, with some time spent overseas, reaching the rank of Aviation Mechanics Mate, First Class, United States Navy. Returning from the war, Lorenz was united in marriage to Elnora Knudsen at Grant Township Lutheran Church, rural Ida Grove on February 17, 1946. This union was blessed with one daughter, Lorna Mae Petersen. They farmed for 18 years, one and a half miles west of Schleswig, and then moved to their present home in Schleswig, where Lorenz operated a saw sharpening service and worked for Farmers Lumber and Grain Company. Lorenz retired from Farmers Lumber and Grain Company after 12 years and continued his saw sharpening business until recently. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Schleswig, and was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Post No. 3930 of Schleswig. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. Lorenz died on Friday, Nov. 9, 1990 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness, attaining the age of 77 years and 17 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jurgen, John, and Edward; and one sister, Minnie Klink Babbe. He was survived by his wife, Elnora of Schleswig; their only child, Lorna and her husband, James Aldag of Schleswig; two grandsons, Travis Aldag and his wife, Shelly of rural Ida Grove, and Troy Aldag and his fiancee, Michele Poulin of Vernon, Connecticut; one great-grandson, Austin Aldag; one brother, Carl Petersen and his wife, Gladys of Schleswig; one sister, Adeline Jaacks of Denison; two sisters-in-law, Alma Petersen of Lake View, and Katie Petersen of Twilight Acres in Wall Lake; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with Pastor Richard E. Nelson and Pastor Donald R. Wagner officiating. Mrs. Marlene Hight was organist and Mrs. Carla Schoenfeld was soloist. The solo selection was "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and the congregational hymn, "How Great Thou Art." Honorary pallbearers were Amos Petersen, Delano Petersen, Marelle Knudsen, Burdelle Knudsen, Wayne Petersen, Willis Petersen, Rev. Merlin Petersen, Minard Petersen, Vernon Petersen, Rev. Reynold Petersen, Wesley Petersen, Burdell Jaacks, and Darryl Petersen. Pallbearers were the American Legion and VFW Post No. 3930 of Schleswig, Iowa. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner & Sons' Funeral Service in Schleswig, Iowa. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig.
