Description	:	Lou Schroer, popular Chester High School social studies teacher, died suddenly early Saturday morning in a local hospital. He had been playing cards with fellow school teachers Friday night when he became ill. He as taken to the hospital and his condition was believed not to be serious, but a few hours later he passed away. He had suffered previously from a heart condition. He taught school... Read More	Lou Schroer, popular Chester High School social studies teacher, died suddenly early Saturday morning in a local hospital. He had been playing cards with fellow school teachers Friday night when he became ill. He as taken to the hospital and his condition was believed not to be serious, but a few hours later he passed away. He had suffered previously from a heart condition. Schroer was one of the more popular Chester High School instructors, having taught here for 10 years, during which time he gained the friendship and respect of his students and fellow teachers. He taught school for 33 years. He also operated a service station in Lothair rom 1945 until about a year ago when he sold it to Joel Fenger. During the time he owned the station, Schroer established it as a thriving truck stop. He was a member of Father Santorie Council, Knights of Columbus and Chester Rotary Club. Born in Kalispell, July 21, 1906, he received his bachelor of education degree from Western Montana College at DilIon, and took further work at the University of Montana at Missoula. June 31, 1939 he married Emmi Markuson, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Karen Gertson of Spokane, Marilyn Raunig of Chester, and Louis John of Big Fork; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Parker and Mrs. Lena Williams, both of Shelby, and Miss Mary Schroer of Cut Bank. Requiem high mass was celebrated at St. Mary Catholic church in Chester. Interment was at the family cemetery near Lothair. Liberty County Times, Chester, MT, 2 Feb 1967
