Read More	1935 Meugniot Touched 220 Volts On Line Details of the death of Louis Meugniot are given in this dispatch to the Salina Journal, sent from Culver City, Kansas, Friday morning: Louis Meugniot, of Hiawatha, was electrocized shortly after 12 o'clock Friday morning when a telephone wire he was handling came in contact with a power line carrying only 220 volts. When the shook struck him he cried out so he could be heard all over town. A Fellow worker, Bell, who climbed the pole to remove Meugniot, was knocked from the pole by the current when he touched the victim of the hot wire. He received minor burns on the 3rd-4th fingers of one hand but his injuries were not serious nor did he suffer any serious effects from the shock or the fall. The attending physician said. Meugniot was apparently dead when removed from the pole on which he was working. Efforts were made to resusitate him; the Salina fire department sent a pullmotor. Meugniot was handling an extra wire which was being removed. His safety belt prevented his falling. Fellow workers got him down from the pole. The accident occurred in a alley near the school house. The telephone wires, it is said, cross lines of the United Power-Light Co., at that point. Death does not generally result from a 220-volt shock, it is said, unless the victim has a weak heart, but other circumstances might enter into the situation. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Hargis funeral home; J.T.Sapp officiating; burial in Hiawatha cemetery. -----Obit in paper Aug. 2, 1935------- Meugniot--- Louis E. Meugniot; only son of Frank-Alice Meugniot, deceased; was born at Hamlin, Kansas, Nov. 29, 1903, died July 26 at Culver City, Kans., at the age of 31 years, 4 months, 23 days. He attended school at Hamlin. At the age of 14 he was baptized into the Church of the Brethren in which his membership still stands. He came to Hiawatha with his parents in 1922, this being his home until his death. He was a member of Battery E. Hiawatha National Guard unit for 6 1/2 years, his last enlistment terminating in August 1934. He has been employed by the American Telephone Co. at different intervals coverting a period of 6 years. Louis is survived by 4 sisters, Mrs. Julia Gordon, of Hiawatha; Mrs. Rosa Miller, of Omaha; Mrs. Ruby Draney, of Hiawatha; Miss Dorothy Meugniot, of Kansas City, Mo.; besides a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins. The sisters have lost their only brother, his friends, of which there were many, will regret his passing. Lewis was always a happy, jolly young man, well liked by everyone who knew him. Five of his fellow workers came from Abilene to attend his funeral, which was held at the Hargis funeral home Sunday, July 28, Rev. Sapp officiating. His text was taken from 2nd Corinthians, 1st chaper, the first 12 verses. The songs, "In the Garden" , "No Night There", were song by Mrs. Jesse Berry, and Mrs. Beans, accompanied on the piano by Miss Kate Moody. Body bearers were Cecil Dlehl, Jesse Berry, Ed Mattox, Walter Herman, Oliver Beach, Sam Doctor. Burial in Hiawatha cemetery..
