Description	:	PLACENTIA, Calif. -- Lucien J. Huard, 92, of Placentia, Calif., died Sept. 16, 2013. Lucien was born Aug. 20, 1921, into the Roman Catholic French Canadian family of Louis and Helen Huard in Winslow, Maine. He was their second child of 16 children. At 16, he went to work at the Opera House theater until he went to serve in World War II from Nov. 24, 1942 to Nov. 16, 1946, fighting in Normandy and Northern France. Huard, 92, of Placentia, Calif., died Sept. 16, 2013. Lucien was born Aug. 20, 1921, into the Roman Catholic French Canadian family of Louis and Helen Huard in Winslow, Maine. He was their second child of 16 children. At 16, he went to work at the Opera House theater until he went to serve in World War II from Nov. 24, 1942 to Nov. 16, 1946, fighting in Normandy and Northern France. He received ribbons for American Theater, European African Middle Eastern Theater and World War II Victory Ribbon. Knowing how to speak French, he was able to help his commanders communicate with France's citizens they came upon. When he returned from the war, he married Evangeline La Croix on Sept. 6, 1947. They were married 65 years. They were well known at the American Legion in Waterville where they won numerous jitterbug contests. They had two children, Carol and Lawrence. He moved his family to California in 1955 to seek a better job and buy their first home. He went to work at The American Pipe Co., then got a job at Angelis Sanitary Can Machine Co. where several of his brothers worked until he retired. Lucien and his wife always gave a helping hand to relatives who moved to California in the late 1950s and early '60s. He loved watching sports on TV and being around his family. Lucien was preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline; his parents, Helen and Louis; six brothers and one sister. He is survived by his son and daughter; three grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Dad, Pepe will be loved and missed for eternity. His wishes that he be donated to Science Care and that no services will be held will be respected. Published in Central Maine on Sept. 18, 2013
